Footwear

There are extant examples and illustrations/depictions of assorted kinds of boots and shoes worn by various Scythian-related cultures.

Pontic Steppes

Depictions of the Pontic-region Scythians include what appear to be ankle- and calf-high leather boots tied/wrapped at the ankle. Sometimes, trousers are tucked into the boots; in other depictions, the trousers hang over the boots.

Altai

Several Pazyryk burials include wool felt boots (some with leather applique on the foot) that are mid-thigh in length.

There are also a few examples from women’s burials of shoes that are likely purely decorative/funerary in nature or that perhaps indicate a particularly high social rank. This speculation comes from the shoes' soles being decorated with plaques, suggesting they were not actually used for walking. (They might have been visible while riding a horse, if the “social rank” theory is correct.)
