While the Scythians may not have had armies always entirely composed of mounted archers, that is by far their most well-known approach to engaging in combat.
Among their most effective and feared tactics has come to be known as the “Parthian shot,” a tactic by which an archer on horseback would fire on an enemy while riding away from them, turning backwards to attack even though the archers appeared to be actively retreating.
